Populist French opposition leader Marine Le Pen has conveniently been convicted of embezzlement and has been banned from running for office for five years, which is basically a political death sentence and will disenfranchise millions of French voters. She was the front-runner in the political contest set to take place in 2027.
Le Pen Taken Out by French Leftists
“There are 11 million people who voted for the movement I represent. So tomorrow, potentially, millions and millions of French people would see themselves deprived of their candidate in the election,” she proclaimed before sentencing.
Le Pen angrily stormed out of the courtroom on Monday in disbelief before her full sentence had been ruled upon, according to the Daily Wire.
She asserted before she was sentenced that the prosecution’s intent was to sideline her in the 2027 election. On Monday, she said on French television network TF1:
“It was a political decision that was made. The magistrate took it upon herself to implement the provisional execution of the ineligibility, to render my appeal on this matter useless in order to prevent me from standing and being elected President of the Republic.”
Conveniently Convicted Prior to Next Election
Le Pen, who favors the “de-Islamization” of French society, stands strongly against illegal migration, and has a number of political viewpoints that align with President Trump, was slapped with a four-year imprisonment, with two to be served under house arrest and two to be suspended. She has been fined 100,000 euros. Eight other National Rally Party members have also been convicted, according to Breitbart.
The embezzlement charges involve funds from the European Parliament given to her party. Prosecutors claimed that she used them to pay a personal assistant and a bodyguard. Le Pen, 56, is appealing the sentence, but her odds of winning in socialist France are not good. She is ineligible while appealing the sentence.
NBC News reported:
The nine-week trial, which began in November after almost a decade of investigations, saw Le Pen and 24 other figures from her National Rally (RN) party accused of misusing more than 3 million euros ($3.3 million) of European Parliament funds to pay party staff between 2004 and 2016 in violation of E.U. regulations. All of those accused have denied the charges.
Delivering his ruling Monday, Judge Benedicte de Perthuis said Le Pen had been “at the heart” of the scheme. “It was established that all these people were actually working for the party, that their (EU) lawmaker had not given them any tasks,” he added, according to Reuters.
He said that the investigations also showed that “these were not administrative errors … but embezzlement within the framework of a system put in place to reduce the party’s costs.”
A Declaration of War from Brussels
The persecution of Le Pen is sending shockwaves across Europe and has made her even more popular.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini stated on X:
“Those who fear the judgment of voters often seek reassurance from the courts. In Paris, they have condemned Marine Le Pen and would like to remove her from political life. A bad situation that is also being observed in other countries such as Romania. What is happening against @MLP_officiel is a declaration of war from Brussels, at a time when the belligerent impulses of Von der Leyen and Macron are terrifying. We are not intimidated, we are not stopped: full speed ahead, my friend!”
RN party president 29-year-old Jordan Bardella, who will most likely take Le Pen’s place if she is forced to step down, commented on Monday via X that she had been “unjustly condemned,” asserting that French democracy had been “executed.”
Hungary’s Viktor Orban also made his stance known and declared on X, “I am Marine!”
Echoes of America – Judicial Activism
The former leader of the Republicans, who sided with Le Pen’s party in last year’s legislative elections, Eric Ciotti, noted that “The democratic destiny of our nation was confiscated by an unworthy judicial cabal.”
“This is not a simple malfunction; it is a system of power capture that systematically excludes any candidate too far to the right who is capable of winning,” he charged.
Europe has its Own Deep State
Vice President JD Vance seemed to have predicted this turn of events when he raised the alarm about threats from within Europe.
“Less than 2 months after @JDVance warned that the greatest threat to Europe was from within, leftists in France have banned Marine Le Pen from running for President despite being the leading candidate. Fill up the JD Vance was right jar!” producer Robby Starbuck wrote.
Those Who Refuse to Learn from History…
Branded as far-right, radical, and fascist, Le Pen seems to have far more in common with American conservatives than her European socialist colleagues. Her opponents appear to have silenced her just as the Left in the United States attempted to do to President Trump.
Removing a major political figure in Europe from the playing field could well destabilize politics there and presage an uprising among the people who are getting angrier by the day with the elites who are ruling over them.
